Free Comic Book Day Every Week

Free comics. Two words that everyone likes to hear -- don't believe us, just got to any local comic shop on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY and witness the frenzy that those two words create.

But you don't have to wait until May 5th to get free comics from Death Ray Comics. In fact, you don't even need to get off of the toilet (or wherever you happen to be reading this post).

Every week we post the code for a free MARVEL digital comic on our Instagram. All you have to do is be the first person to plug that digital code into the MARVEL website, and then that comic will be added to your digital collection. Once it's in your digital collection, you can have access to it, anywhere you have access to the web. (You can also get the codes for free with each MARVEL comic you buy at Death Ray Comics)

So why settle for just one FREE COMIC BOOK DAY when you can have one every week?!

A Spider-Man For Everyone!

Spider-Man has been through a lot the past few years: Doc Ock took over his body/mind (Superior Spider-Man), then he came back only to be thrust into the Spider Verse, and now he's almost an Iron Man-type as the CEO of Parker Industries. Remember when he struggled to fight the Sandman and get Aunt May milk and eggs?

The new Spider-Man comic book series, Spidey, takes us back to those lighter, less universe-changing days of the web slinger.  This is a fun comic book that I feel any fan of the 'ole web head can pick up and enjoy.

Happy THORsday!

The English word Thursday is named after the Norse god of thunder, Thor. Thursday literally means “Thor’s day” in Old English. Thor is represented riding a chariot drawn by goats and wielding the hammer.

Trent's ¶
Did you love PACIFIC RIM? Me too. Ever wonder what it would be like if a married couple stepped into the drift to operate a Jaeger? What?.. ME TOO! Read this comic if you are a PR fangirl/fanboy. You will love this comic if you felt that PACIFIC RIM needed more love story in it.

HERCULES #1
Publisher: MARVEL COMICS
(W) Dan Abnett (A) Luke Ross (CA) TBD
Rated T+ -I don't know how Marvel rates things, because I didn't see this needing even a "T" rating-
MSRP: $3.99
Synopsis:
The World's first super hero decides it's time to get back in the game, protect the innocent, defend the world, and generally remind everyone why he set the mark for heroism in the first place. Make way... Hercules is back! The greatest son of Olympus is thrown into the fight against threats ancient and modern, and Hercules demonstrates that a legend, no matter how strong he is, survives on his experience, and his ability to move with the times. A modern world, an age-old hero... and blockbuster action!

Trent's ¶
Seasoned vet Dan Abnett joins with the art team of ALL-NEW INVADERS for what I think is going to be a sleeper hit. I had zero expectations starting this issue, but it was able to unload a ton of exposition without feeling heavy-handed. By the end of this first ish, I added it to my pull-list. Part Hero-For-Hire part Xena, Hercules has embraced modern fighting tech (wait until you see his weapons room) but has more experience fighting as a hero than anyone out there. I expect to see some great character development/comedy from his dead-beat roommate demi-god Gilgamesh.

CITIZEN JACK #1
Publisher: IMAGE COMICS
(W) Sam Humphries (A/CA) Tommy Patterson
MSRP: $3.99
Synopsis:
A HORROR-COMEDY FOR ANYONE WHO HATES POLITICS! Every presidential candidate has a skeleton in their closet-Jack Northworthy worships the devil! A scandal-plagued, small town politician, Jack should in no way be president. But he's got a secret weapon: Marlinspike, a malevolent demon of high ambitions. Together, they're running for president in an outrageous campaign that America will never forget! Blockbuster writer SAM HUMPHRIES (Guardians of the Galaxy and X-men: Black Vortex) and New York Times bestselling artist TOMMY PATTERSON (Game of Thrones) debut a brand new ONGOING SERIES with a DIABOLICAL EXTRA-SIZED FIRST ISSUE!

Trent's ¶
Wow! Do you love the segments on THE DAILY SHOW where they make fun of Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC? Then this is the comic for you. This first ish had me audibly laughing (not an easy task these days) with its satiric take on two words "cable goddamned news." I'm guessing we will see A and mirrored B stories with Jack and the Fire Fight news team. Jack's a mess and is dealing is his own demon... literally. My favorite line from the book was the introduction of the news team with the word bubble, "Coming up, terrorist cells buying marijuana with food stamps -- IN YOUR BACK YARD!" And of course I went with the Chip Zdarsky variant cover.

EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN #1
Publisher: MARVEL COMICS
(W) Jeff Lemire (A/CA) Humberto Ramos
MSRP: $4.99
Synopsis: The fate of mutantkind is decided here! Staring down the threat of extinction once more, veteran X-Man Storm pulls together the team she'll need to ensure her race's survival. Together, these EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN will struggle with the familiar burden of being hated and feared, while facing threats the likes of which they've never seen. Here's hoping they survive the experience! RATED T+

Trent's ¶
The Terregin Mist that transformed so many seemingly dormant Inhumans into NuHumans is also killing mutants. On top of that, it has sterilized mutantkind. The book is very clear to point out "THERE WILL NE NO NEW MUTANTS EVER AGAIN." So it's up to Storm to get a functioning X-Team back together to protect the last of the mutants, as they are now being hunted openly. Humerto Ramos's art sold this book for me. His new take on Collosus alone put this book into my ongoing pull list. Plus, OLD MAN LOGAN!

THE STORY OF MY TITS

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn't been affected in some way by this cancer (with more than 1.5 million cases diagnosed each year).

Cancer is a daunting problem that leaves its victims and their loved ones feeling helpless. Sometimes sharing a funny story or being the shoulder for support is the only help that you can give.

Jennifer Hayden's graphic novel THE STORY OF MY TITS is a funny, relateable and very honest memoir that will have readers smiling, nodding, and perhaps even crying.
"Heartbreaking and riveting, Jennifer Hayden's caustic, sarcastic wit streams through her quirky drawings, unfolding a survivor's tale and so much more. The Story of My Tits takes us from her flat-chested adolescence to small-boobed acceptance, then loss - until the dramatic reconstruction of Jennifer herself." —Marisa Acocella Marchetto, author of Cancer Vixen and Ann Tenna
"[Hayden's] honesty is blistering: every panel is a densely inked peek into the gory details of womanhood, from breastfeeding to breast cancer... Her knack for dreamlike imagery is a delightful counterpoint to this frankness... It is this combination of surrealism and an unflinching commitment to candor that elevates this memoir beyond simple confessional into something truly moving." — Publishers Weekly (starred review)
"There’s a theme that runs through her beautifully intimate graphic memoir that we can all relate to... Hayden recounts the story of her life by telling us the story of her breasts, as a way to explore body image, relationships, and cancer." — Marie Claire
“The pacing of her storytelling is seamless... Hayden’s memoir will resonate with anyone who has suffered loss and gone on to tell the tale.” — Booklist
"Fabulous... for a story that cancer twines through, it is delightfully hilarious. Hayden has a gift." — Foreword Reviews
When Jennifer Hayden was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 43, she realized that her tits told a story. Across a lifetime, they’d held so many meanings: hope and fear, pride and embarrassment, life and death. And then they were gone.

Now, their story has become a way of understanding her story: a journey from the innocence of youth to the chaos of adulthood, through her mother’s mastectomy, her father’s mistress, her husband’s music, and the endlessly evolving definition of family.

As cancer strikes three different lives, some relationships crumble while others emerge even stronger, and this sarcastic child of the ‘70s finally finds a goddess she can believe in.

For everyone who’s faced cancer personally, or watched a loved one fight that battle, Hayden’s story is a much-needed breath of fresh air, an irresistible blend of sweetness and skepticism. Rich with both symbolism & humor, The Story of My Tits will leave you laughing, weeping, and feeling grateful for every day. -- a 352-page softcover graphic novel with French flaps (B&W Interiors), 8” x 8”

Comics for All-Ages

We're always stoked when long-time friend and A Part of Him Network talent Tom Sherlock visits our shop and brings his boys with him. Elliot's favorite comics include Batmite, Mega-Man, and anything by Steve Niles.
Elliot gave the approval of our new "All-Ages" comics section.
