PAPER GIRLS Vol 1

PAPER GIRLS, VOL. 1 TP
Story By: Brian K. Vaughan
Pencils: Cliff Chiang
Colors By: Matt Wilson

Nostalgia is a powerful motivator. It’s easy to tie emotion into the tangible things that were once so important to us. There was never a decade which put more importance on “things” than did the 80’s. There is a trend in pop culture right now to hook audiences with the personal nostalgia we associate with that decade so obsessed with stuff: THE GOLDBERGS, COMIC BOOK MEN, the whole concept of retro gaming, etc. And while I just listed two of my favorite television shows – and you better believe I own the HD-remastings of DUCKTALES and STREET FIGHTER II, the aforementioned pieces of popular culture aren’t ground-breaking new concepts.

PAPER GIRLS, Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan (writer of SAGA and Y: THE LAST MAN) and Cliff Chiang (artist of BEWARE THE CREEPER and WONDER WOMAN) delivers a new story peppered with enough nostalgic references that readers will swear they’ve read it before, not having a clue of what is coming on the next page.

Horror comics reached a peak of popularity in the United States 65 years ago. New York Times best selling artist and author Ben Templesmith has hooked readers in the new millennium with unique depictions of the macabre and supernatural, proving the horror comics aren't [un]dead.

Don't miss this candid conversation between Trent Hunsaker (smodcast.com - deathraycomics.com) and Eisner Nominee and International Horror Guild Award recipient Ben Templesmith. From co-creating 30 Days of Night which spawned the major motion picture, to making his stamp on the DC Universe with Gotham By Midnight, get a glimpse beyond the pages and at the horrors Templesmith has yet to unleash.

Free Comic Book Day Every Week

Free comics. Two words that everyone likes to hear -- don't believe us, just got to any local comic shop on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY and witness the frenzy that those two words create.

But you don't have to wait until May 5th to get free comics from Death Ray Comics. In fact, you don't even need to get off of the toilet (or wherever you happen to be reading this post).

Every week we post the code for a free MARVEL digital comic on our Instagram. All you have to do is be the first person to plug that digital code into the MARVEL website, and then that comic will be added to your digital collection. Once it's in your digital collection, you can have access to it, anywhere you have access to the web. (You can also get the codes for free with each MARVEL comic you buy at Death Ray Comics)

So why settle for just one FREE COMIC BOOK DAY when you can have one every week?!

A Spider-Man For Everyone!

Spider-Man has been through a lot the past few years: Doc Ock took over his body/mind (Superior Spider-Man), then he came back only to be thrust into the Spider Verse, and now he's almost an Iron Man-type as the CEO of Parker Industries. Remember when he struggled to fight the Sandman and get Aunt May milk and eggs?

The new Spider-Man comic book series, Spidey, takes us back to those lighter, less universe-changing days of the web slinger.  This is a fun comic book that I feel any fan of the 'ole web head can pick up and enjoy.

SPIDEY #1
(W) Robert P. Thompson (A/CA) Nick Bradshaw
Think you know everything about Peter Parker's early days? Think again. It's action, adventure and a rip-roaring romp in classic Marvel style as SPIDEY swings onto shelves this winter! Featuring adventures from throughout the web-slinging wonder's younger years, it's a return to the days of overdue homework, not knowing how to talk to girls (or anybody, really) and just a plenty of danger. Witness some of Spidey's earliest tangles with the likes of DOC OCK, SANDMAN and a host of other unexpected guests!

Happy THORsday!

The English word Thursday is named after the Norse god of thunder, Thor. Thursday literally means “Thor’s day” in Old English. Thor is represented riding a chariot drawn by goats and wielding the hammer.
